Blessings!

Congratulations to my dear CU friend Steve and his wife, Kate, who just received their "referral call" from their adoption agency!  They have been waiting for many, many months to adopt a child from Russia, and it is finally happening!

They don't even know what an encouragement they have been to me in the months since my brother's cancer diagnosis.  Even though they are in completely different circumstances right now, Kate's beautiful blog posts--about wisdom, understanding, peace, trials, suffering, longing, and learning more about God's desire to bring us closer to Him--have brought me much joy and many tears.  Her honest words of longing are all too familiar, though for different reasons.  I feel God is bringing them through this trial so that they can be a help, comfort and inspiration for others, and I feel God is doing the same with David and Amy.   Some excerpts from Steve & Kate's blog:

"...I realized that our infertility is not a curse or an injustice on my life. Instead, it is an opportunity for us to be a part of bringing justice to a child’s life – giving a father to the fatherless, love to the “unlovable”.    What Steve and I have realized is that our “dream” of having a biological child needed to be broken in order for us to see God’s bigger dream for our lives....

...Each twist and turn is a part of the story, part of the adventure. So I have truly begun to feel grateful as we wait  and to believe that God is preparing the perfect time for our adoption to take place. I think there is so much beauty and power in our stories. There is so much to gain in the process, but I often  just want to skip to the “outcome”.

However, the story is what builds us, what molds us and challenges us. The story is what makes us understand who we are – the good, the bad and the ugly. And even more, the story helps us to gain understanding into the heart of God. In the heart of God is beauty and redemption, but there is also pain and waiting. He knows pain. He knows waiting.

So as He gives me these opportunities to connect with Him and the story He is writing in my life, I pray that I would open my heart to what He wants to teach me, what He wants to show me, how He wants to surprise me and blow me away with His goodness and kindness and faithfulness. But, I have to let Him write it and not take the pen in my own hands."
